Coordinate Tool
Measure precise 3D coordinates in the model - useful for geodata alignment and survey checks.
Activate Tool
- Click Toolbox in the toolbar
- Select "Measure Coordinates"
- The cursor becomes a crosshair
Read Coordinates
- Click or tap on a surface in the model
- Coordinates appear in the overlay:
- X (East) - Easting coordinate
- Y (North) - Northing coordinate
- Z (Elevation) - Height above reference plane
Geodetic Format
Coordinates are displayed in geodetic format (Z-up). The model internally uses xeokit's Y-up system - the transformation occurs automatically.
Move Display
The coordinate display can be freely positioned:
- Desktop: Drag the title bar with the mouse
- Mobile: Touch and drag the title bar
The overlay stays at the chosen position until you deactivate the tool.
End Tool
Click "End Coordinates" in the toolbox again.
Use Cases
Survey Verification
Check if BIM coordinates match survey data:
- Open the coordinate tool
- Click on prominent points (building corners, etc.)
- Compare with your survey data
Geodata Alignment
When importing geodata (GeoJSON, Shapefile, KML), you can check the coordinates:
- Measure coordinates in the BIM model
- Import geodata via Import Geodata
- Check if the coordinate systems match
Position Determination
Determine the exact position of an element in space:
- Useful for construction site planning
- Helpful for logistics (delivery, crane operations)
- Important for surveying and staking out
Coordinate Systems
BIM AVA supports various coordinate systems (EPSG). The system used depends on the IFC model.
Supported EPSG Codes:
| EPSG | Name | Usage |
|---|---|---|
| 25832 | ETRS89 / UTM zone 32N | Germany (Standard) |
| 4647 | ETRS89 / UTM zone 32N (zE-N) | Germany (Surveying) |
| 8395 | ETRS89 / Gauss-Krüger CM 9E | Hamburg, Northern Germany |
| 4326 | WGS 84 | GPS coordinates (Lat/Lon) |
| 3857 | Web Mercator | Online maps (Google Maps, OSM) |
| 31467 | DHDN / 3-degree Gauss-Krüger zone 3 | Old German surveying |
Check Coordinate System
The coordinate system used is in the IFC file under IfcProject → RepresentationContexts → CoordinateSystem. If in doubt, ask your planner.
Tips
Precise Measurement
Zoom in closer for more accurate clicking on the desired position.
Multiple Points
You can click multiple points in sequence. The overlay always shows the coordinates of the last clicked point.
